President Trump refuses to apologize for his racist image of the Obamas. Sure, that would be the right thing to do, but we have seen so many racist statements and acts from Donald Trump in the past, and with no apology, so why would this time be different? Believe me, no one is waiting for an apology, and it wouldn’t change anything anyway. An apology would not be sincere, nor would it mean he is forgiven. We are past the point of fixating on what he says and how he treats others, including women and our global partners who have been by our side for decades. Racist statements are not about the person who is the target of the racism. It is about the person who is doing the targeting. And just a week before, Trump threatened Trevor Noah with a $5 billion lawsuit because Mr. Noah made a statement against him at the Grammys, a joke much less harmful than the racist statements Trump makes on a regular basis.
On the other hand, I have to thank him. Why? Because the racist image he sent on Truth Social was so out there that it is too hard to ever pull back. His most recent racist images have made it easier for those of us who have had a difficult time trying to convince others that he is, in fact, racist. Nothing he did in the past, not even the evidence of his decades of discrimination, was enough for some, who always found an excuse for him. However, those racist images landed like a thud. And doubling down, which he always does, is rarely a good policy, and his showing pride in his racism was a bad idea. More of the thin “luster” he still had has washed off, opening the eyes of more Americans. And for those who still do not believe Trump is racist, there has to be some other issue going on, and nothing I would have time to address.
So much of this administration has been against minorities, paying way too much attention to DEI and being “woke.” Whatever. The administration has pushed out a host of people of color, particularly Black women, from leading positions. However, we are a persistent bunch. We are still here.
But I also have a smirk on my face for another reason. The people sitting in the White House, leading the Departments and Agencies, and running this entire government, all look the same. So, as the administration of “merit” continues to make Rome burn, and the ashes are now blowing in the wind, don’t blame us. This is all on you.
